Paul Smith
My passion as a photographer is creating images to enrich people's lives.
Based in the USA in St. Louis, Missouri, I love using my photography skills to capture the wonder of God's creation and highlight the various pursuits and achievements of people. While my primary focus over the past few years has been on bird photography I also enjoy creating sports, aviation, nature and landscape images. Check out those links on this site as well as summaries of some of my Photography Adventures.
My interest in photography began in the early 1980s while backpacking in Colorado and Wyoming with a Minolta XG1 film camera. I loved being outside enjoying nature while capturing the beauty of the landscape.
The complex mix of capabilities and skills required to create inspiring images make photography a great pursuit for me:
(1) The planning required to place yourself in the right place at the right time
(2) The creative and artistic ability to "see" the image you want to capture
(3) The ability to understand today's complex cameras in order to capture the image properly
(4) The detailed knowledge of computer post-processing software like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to optimize the image once you get home
(5) The ability to share the image so the story it tells can be enjoyed by others.
I've learned  a lot of those things from great photography teachers and mentors like Bryan Peterson, Scott Kelby, Matt Kloskowski, Moose Peterson and Rick Sammon. But I've learned a lot more by getting out there before the sun comes up and trying to get that next great shot.
I hope you enjoy the stories captured by my images.
I'm a long-time member of the Photographic Society of America and the St. Louis Camera Club. You can see more of my images by following psmithusa on FlickrInstagram, Facebook and X.
